The potty pooper

We bought a potty for Lulu almost a month back but we have not been diligent in training her. Only recently we braved the future and embarked on the grand adventure of potty training. Currently, the success rate is low but we hope the end is not too far. It is still early days but we look forward to ending our days of wiping Lulu's rear end soon. Good luck to us!

Our household has been hit by a storm recently. It was a trying time for all of us. We were drained physically and emotionally. Our small unit has been put through the test but alhamdulliah, with the support from our family, we came out stronger. Nevertheless it was a much needed wake-up call. Now that the storm has passed, we are picking up the pieces and moving on with life and love.

Its time to turn over a new leaf.. :)

My little artist

Lulu started scribbling since she was 1 and a half, I think.. I don't really keep track on all these things. Most of the time her medium is crayon. Although we provide her with an endless supply of drawing blocks, our little artist prefer to scribble & doodle on her table top, the floor and our sofa (the walls are still safe for now).

During a recent trip we bought her a small, clip-on Doddle Pro, something to distract her with. As you know, Lulu is always amazed by cats and fishes which means mommy, daddy, bibik, bik sham, mak nana, paksu and in fact just about everybody has to draw cats and fishes over and over and over and over and over again..

While she has been scribbling and doodling for almost seven months now (again, only a guesstimate), nothing she drew ever made sense to me until of course yesterday. I was changing into my baju tidoq and Lulu, trying very2 hard to delay her bed time by doodling, called out to me and said "Mama! Fish!". And so I went to have a look and found the drawing below.. (of course I had to also show my creative side by adding colours to the background). Maklum la mana tumpahnya kuah kalau tak ke nasik? hehehee..

I am glad that I took a picture of her drawing because just when I thought my baby is an absolute Da Vinci genius and asked her to draw fishes again, she drew what looked like a crooked line and said "Aepane mama!", which in human language means "Aeroplane mama"...

The Mek 'Ganus

As always we had a blast visiting the girls. Although Lulu & Iman got into a bit of the push/shove/hit match, I can tell that Lulu tremendously enjoyed her time with her cousins. Look how cute they looked in kaftans. I call them the Mek 'Ganus!

Finally as promised, me in my green t-shirt in front of Atok's house. I must have been around 4 or 5 when that picture was taken.. and that brown skirt was also one of my favourites.

Now this one was given to me by my mom a few months back. She said it reminded her of Lulu & Iman :) That was of-course me and my sister. I guess amongst all my siblings, she was and still is the closest to me. We played, fought and got beaten together. Nowadays, we gossip, talk and shop together :D

I just cant help but marvel at this picture. I just love the radiance of the yellow rose combined with Lulu's toothy grin - just makes my heart full! This picture was taken during our 2007 post Raya Haji trip to Perlis and the yellow rose is of course a compliment from Atuk's garden.

This post is wayyy overdue.. and incomplete because I was supposed to scan my old picture and put it up alongside this picture of Lulu. However, our scanner is still in the box and as usual I am way too lazy to figure it out.

Well, enough of that. This post is about the green tee and the title speaks for itself. This tee was mine 27 or 28 years back (betul ka Ma?). Atuk managed to keep it in good condition for so long to see it now on Lulu. Anyway, believe it or not I wore this tee when I was about 4 or 5 years old to kindergarden. I guess it has shrunk over the years. And guess what? Its one of Lulu's favourite now. Maybe I should keep it for the next generation. What do you think, Atuk?

A Parent's Nightmare

I was ready to post Lulu's raya pics when this happened. Lulu took a tumble from the sofa yesterday. Our hearts break as her shrieking cries pierce the afternoon. We rushed her to emergency after looking at the bloody, bruised and swollen lips & nose. Alhamdulillah.. the x-ray comforted our worries of a broken nose. However, the after-shock of the tumble has left her with a fever and runny nose. As advised by the Doctor, we are monitoring her closely for any changes in her behavior for fear of internal bleeding.

This was Lulu's first time at the pool. Her dad took her for a quick swim after the picnic we had. Lulu was not sure what to make of it at first, though after a while she did a bit of splashing.

This morning my mom told me over the phone that ikan kembong(chubb mackerel) which is also fondly known as ikan temenung in Perlis is selling cheap at the wet market – RM5/kg (normally RM8-9/kg in KL). She said she was thinking of going on a diet but ikan temenung had other plans for her. Over these past few days, she had fried them, curried them and made laksa out of them..

Ikan temenung has always been a staple in my family. The flesh is succulent and simply delish cooked in any way. Fried temenung, grilled temenung, temenung curry, assam pedas temenung, temenung masak cuka, temenung masak kicap and of course everybody’s all time favourite – laksa.

Over the years, I grew distant from the fish as my allergies acted up. I hated the blocked nose, headaches and red bumps after-effect. None the less, ikan temenung always conjures up fond memories of my childhood. Fried temenung particularly reminds me of the time when my sister and I were smaller.. 7 or 8 maybe. My maktok used to fry the fish and let us eat it with piping hot white rice and a dollop of tomato sauce. We lurveed it and would ask mom to send us to maktok’s again and again. However, my mom’s reaction to what maktok has been feeding us every time we were there is a story for another day.. :)

Anyway, no prize for guessing what I had for lunch today.. and no prize for guessing why I am finding it hard to breathe right now..

Lulu had a blast visiting her cousins in Kemaman last weekend. We were there for Sister Aida's 6th birthday, which we celebrated on Saturday. Sunday morning saw us at the beach behind Kak's house - DeMonique's Bay (kalau dlm bahasa melayu - Teluk Mok Nik.. hehee). Both Lulu & Iman enjoyed the swing at the beach although Iman looked a bit bored in pic.. maybe bacause she's been there lots. Lulu cried when we let the waves wash her feet. You can tell how takut she was by how tightly she hugged her dad in pic above.

Our little jailbird has been trying to break free of her four walls (or should I say four rails?). We only realized this 2 days ago but according to Bibik, Lulu has been 'scaling the new heights' for quite a while now. We have lowered the bed to the second lowest position and will probably be taking out the bumpers soon. She bumps her head on the rails quite often now and will cry a mek-mek after.. but nothing a few hugs and kisses can't take care of..
